ARCHIE-WeSt User Guide: Introduction

ARCHIE-WeSt provides Research Computing facilities to the University of Strathclyde and other Institutions primarily in the west of Scotland.

The pages in this section provide a comprehensive overview of how to access and use ARCHIE-WeSt.

ARCHIE-WeSt consists of the following specification:

64 Standard compute nodes (Lenovo SD30 servers)

  • 2 x Intel Xeon Gold 6138 20 core 2.0GHz CPU's
  • 40 cores per node
  • 2560 cores in total (across all nodes)
  • 192 GB RAM per node

8 Standard AMD EPYC based compute nodes (Dell PowerEdge R7725 servers)

  • 2 x AMD EPYC 9555 64 core 3.2GHz CPU's
  • 128 cores per node
  • 1024 cores in total (across all nodes)
  • 768 GB RAM per node
  • Priority (SL1) users only

2 Large memory nodes (Lenovo SR850 servers)

  • 4 x Intel Xeon Gold 6138 20 core 2.0GHz CPU's
  • 80 cores per node
  • 3 TB RAM per node

4 Visualization capable Login nodes (Lenovo ThinkSystem SR650 servers)

  • 2 x Intel Xeon Gold 6138 20 core 2.0GHz CPU's
  • 768 GB RAM per node
  • NVidia Quadro P4000 graphics card

6 GPU nodes (24 NVidia A100 GPUs in total)

  • 2 Lenovo SR670 servers, each with:
    • 4 x NVidia A100 40GB GPUs (PCIe)
    • 2 x Intel Xeon Gold 5218R 2.10GHz CPUs
    • 192 GB RAM
  • 4 Dell PowerEdge XE8545 servers, each with:
    • 4 x NVidia A100 80GB GPUs with NVLink (A100SXM)
    • 2 x AMD EPYC 7513 2.60 GHz CPUs
    • 512 GB RAM

20 nodes for Undergraduate use (wee-archie)

  • 2 x Intel Xeon Gold 6138 20 core 2.0GHz CPU's
  • 40 cores per node
  • 800 cores in total (across all nodes)
  • 192 GB RAM per node

High performance network (100Gb/s Intel Omnipath)

  • On nodes 0-64

825TB high performance parallel filesystem storage (IBM GPFS)

Two Head nodes for system management (Lenovo ThinkSystem SR530)
